Potato Cage – Update

Well almost a month has passed since my 1st post about our potato cages and since there was a new development this weekend with one of the plants I figured it was time for an update.

This weekend we were treated to a lone blossom on one of our four potato cages.  I don’t remember seeing any flowers on last year’s disaster of a  potato crop so I am taking this as a sign that we will have a successful tuber crop this year.  Below is a quick progression of where we started back around May 9th to where we are today June 23rd.  Pretty neat.

I think the wife hit a homerun here with the potato cage idea she found on Pinterest!  I can’t wait until harvest time!

I’m anxious to hear about your results. I have one potato box but have not yet harvested anything. The potatoes are not yet ready.

I will keep the updates coming. I have been doing some reading on the net for knowing when to pull your potaoes. So far I have no definitive answer but the conscensus seems to be when teh plant dies back. One interesting thing I dicovered was that you can root around in your mounds and steal a couple tubers if you are interested. This is something I may just try!
