We continued bottling tonight and brought our very first batch of sap we made in our first weekend boil to syrup. As you can see the yield was a little better than last nights batch. This batch, which was the first sap run, also appears to be a little lighter than yesterdays batch, so possibly a medium amber.
We clocked in (35) 8 ounce bottles and some refrigerator syrup which works out to 2.1875 gallons. Our season total so far is 3.9375 gallons so just shy of the 4 gallon mark. We are well above last years total which was somewhere in the 3 gallon range and we still have several gallons of “almost syrup” to finish & bottle as well as another 100 gallons of sap to boil. We are hoping that this last 100 gallons of sap may yield us some Grade B syrup that we could use for cooking down the road, but we will need to wait and see…
