With construction of the Cornhole boards complete it was time to recruit my live in seamstress to make the bean bags, I mean corn bags. Once again, I followed the instructions on the Cornhole-How-To page and we set about collecting supplies. The wife already had one color of “duck cloth” on hand, the blue digital camo color, so all we needed was a second contrasting color to complete the set, red was an obvious choice. The game requires (4) bags of each color with finished dimensions of 6” x 6” and each bag weighing between 14oz. and 16oz. It is also important that only “whole kernel” feed corn be used in the bags, apparently cracked corn is a big no no…
After a trip to our friendly neighborhood Tractor Supply Store, I found and purchased the smallest bag of “whole kernel” feed corn they had, a fifty pound bag! With the corn in hand and the bags sewn up with the exception of a small hole for loading the corn, we were ready to fill the bags. I used a small digital baking scale and a homemade paper funnel made out of a magazine cover to load in the correct amount of corn.
I filled the bags as I set them on the digital scale. It was approximately 2-1/2 cups of corn per bag to get them to weigh 16oz. As the corn dust settles out I am sure they will drop a little bit in weight. With the corn loaded I gave each bag to the wife to complete the sewing of the holes.
We made a total of ten bags, five of each color so that we would have one extra in case something were to happen with one of the bags. With the boards built and the bags completed it was time to decide on a paint scheme for my litte borther’s new Cornhole Board set.
